Sumner Middle School Athletics

The philosophy of Middle School athletics in the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District emphasizes participation and character over winning. While we want our student athletes to compete at their highest, we also want them to have the opportunity to play at the level that best fits their physical and mental abilities.

Our middle school teams compete with Enumclaw, Orting, White River and Fife school districts in the Plateau League. The athletic year is divided into four seasons.

Team Placement

To maximize the experience for athletes, both individually and as a team, students will be assessed during the first week of practice and placed on a team to best fit their skill level: Varsity, Junior Varsity, C-Team or E- Team. Varsity, Junior Varsity, and C-Team will travel to other schools to compete. E-Team athletes will not travel, but will instead participate in an intra-mural type program that will focus on skill building.

Team placements will be communicated after the first week of practice. If a student athlete is not placed on a traveling team they will have the opportunity to participate in the E team program.

*There will be no athletic participation fee for those placed on E Teams. If a fee is paid in advance and an athlete is placed on E Team there will be an option to have the fee refunded or transferred to a future season that school year. The ASB card is still required for participation.
